The American carmaker's Chevrolet Niva world premieres at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show.
The tough-looking Chevrolet Niva concept has been revealed at the Moscow Motor Show. Designed by the GM-AvtoVAZ joint-venture, the Niva show car is billed as a close-to-production concept that previews the second-generation of Chevrolet's entry-level off-roader.
The second-gen Niva is more modern-looking than its aging predecessor. The concept car sports jagged exterior with a winch, snorkel and auxiliary lights. The show car gets narrow headlamps, circular foglamps, a hexagonal grille, roof rails, and matte black paintwork which gives it a muscular look. The new Chevrolet Niva is beefed up with a lift kit and 235/70 mud-terrain tyres.
Chevrolet hasn’t revealed much about the interior, but the new concept car features a three-spoke steering wheel, off-road gauges and plenty of metallic trim.
A 1.8-litre petrol engine that is connected to a five-speed transmission will run under the hood of the Chevrolet Niva. The American carmaker hasn’t revealed the performance figures yet, but reports suggest that the power-mill will deliver 135PS. Power will be sent to all four wheels via a full-time 4WD system with lockable differential.
The 2016 Chevrolet Niva will be built at AvtoVAZ’s Tolyatti plant. We would love to see it in India once it goes into production.
